The Mighty Spartan Makes Landfall!

“The Mighty Spartan” (maybe you’ve heard about it) has made landfall along the northwestern coast of Ireland.  Enjoy the attached pictures which show it’s 3 1/2 month trek across the Atlantic and the approximate location where it is hopefully bobbing along the shore.  This 4 foot unmanned sailboat was launched northeast of Bermuda on November 19th and my STEM students have been tracking it by GPS and making predictions about its path ever since.

I’ve been in contact with the American Embassy there in Dublin with the hope they could connect us with a school in the boat’s area to retrieve it and make an international educational connection.  Unfortunately ALL schools in Ireland are closed for the next weeks for Spring Break.  In the meanwhile, I’ve contacted the Golf Course and other area businesses along that coastline in the hopes that someone will make the trek to find it and bring it safely to shore.

If anyone has friends or relatives living in this area of Ireland or perhaps vacationing there over the holidays, please let me know.  Perhaps they’d be able to help us.  Stand by!
