New Directions Early Head Start – Kent County

New Directions Early Head Start-Kent County is a partner program of the University of Delaware providing services in the Kent County area to pregnant women and families of children birth to three years of age through home-based services

Families are enrolled based on income eligibility.  All families receive information and support in the areas of:

  • Child development
  • Health (including pre-natal, if applicable)
  • Family education and involvement.

Home-based Services

Home-based services are provided for 60 families by six home visitors. The families are comprised of pregnant women and families of children birth to three.   These families receive weekly visits and emphasis is placed on the parents being their child’s first and primary educator.  Home-based services have been expanded with recent funding to focus on lower Kent County.

A parent committee is formed from the families of both center based and home based programs.  This committee meets regularly and hosts speakers on topics based on the needs and interests of the families.  In addition, parent-child groups are planned frequently throughout the year.
