New Directions Early Head Start

New Directions Early Head Start for Kent County serves pregnant women and families of childlren from birth to three in the Kent County area. It provides both home-based and center-based services for families, with enrollment based on income eligibility.

Families learn about child development, health, and how to deal as a family with a newborn.

  • DECC offers center-based services year-round at the Kent County Community School in Dover where two early childhood educators and assistants work with 8 children, six weeks to 3 years old. In addition, the center's Family Service Worker assists families in setting and meeting goals and tapping into community resources.

  • DECC provides home-based services to 20 families, with home visits weekly for each participating family. In addition, family gatherings are encouraged twice a month, so that families can socialize, share and learn together.
