Principal’s Message

Dear Lake Forest East Families,

Welcome to East Elementary School in the Lake Forest School District.  My name is James Dick and I am the new principal at Lake Forest East Elementary School.  A little bit about me:

I have been privileged to have spent 17 wonderful years as an educator in the state of Delaware working with students from the elementary to collegiate levels.  The first 13 years were spent as an elementary teacher (primarily in grades K-3).  The last 4 years have been spent as the Mathematics Supervisor of Instruction at the Delaware Department of Education.  In my role at the Department of Education I regularly trained administrators, teachers, and instructional specialists on standards implementation and curricular alignment.  I have also served as a faculty member at Wilmington University for the past 13 years where I teach education courses to pre-service teachers.

Again this year, Lake Forest East will be hosting a Back to School Family Picnic on Thursday, August 27th, from 5:30-7:00.  Our picnic will take place behind the school in the playground area and will include many family-fun events including dinner (free to all East families), Rita’s Italian Ice, and bounce houses for the children.  Class lists will be posted on the windows of the front door that evening.  Again, this year, we will offer the opportunity to visit your child’s classroom when called into the building (grade level by grade level) at the Back to School Picnic.

Our year will officially begin on Monday, August 31, 2015.  Students will be permitted in the building at 8:10 and will be considered tardy after 8:35 and will need to be signed in at the office.  The school day will conclude and students will be dismissed at 3:15.  Kindergarten students will have a staggered start. Additional information about the staggered start date for kindergarteners will be sent out separately to all of our kindergarten families. Our school office hours are from 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Monday-Friday.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions, comments, or concerns. I am looking forward to meeting everyone and to a fun and productive 2015-2016 school year at East Elementary!
