Saturday was a great day to be a Spartan!!! Thirteen of the twenty teams who were vying for a chance to advance to State Finals made it!! The full results can be seen at www.delcaps.org, but attached are highlights for everyone’s performance. You’ll see that in addition to the 13 who made it through, there were several who were soooo close. Special shout out to LFHS sophomore, Jacob Adkins, who won an individual OMer award for his talent and hard work for his 3 month endeavor to successfully build a functioning clock complete with swinging pendulum.
The Odyssey of the Mind Ocean Regional Tournament is Saturday, March 3, 2018 at Laurel Middle/High School. This year our littlest OMers (Primary) will be putting on Cooking Shows, Vehicle teams will be competing in a triathlon of events. Technical teams have to present a story about emojis and texting NON verbally! Classics teams will make a mockery of famous literature. Structure teams have to turn their balsa wood structures into animals and feed them while they test their weight holding capabilities. Performance teams will be out of this world with skits about aliens in a stellar hangout on a quest for treasure. See the schedule below.
Also below is a list of our teams so you can match up kids to coaches and therefore their performance times. Speaking of coaches, these are the folks who have put in MONTHS with our students to facilitate them in the creative problem solving process while NOT being able to offer outside assistance. From our LF Family of Staff, you’ll see that they include: Aubrey Johnson, Heather Crouse, Rodney Collins, Rachel Argo, Todd Weller, Todd Pope, Lynn Arzinger, Erica Knight, Megan Smith and Mike Meadows.
A final thanks to the 23 folks who will be working the tournament on Saturday after putting in a day of training earlier this month. Our teams couldn’t compete without them stepping up on their behalves. From our Spartan Ranks: Earle Dempsey, Heather Beauchamp, Kristyn Bradford (and husband), Cindy Westhoff (and husband), Amber Hobbs, Dorian Klaus, Michele Martel, Barb Jumper, Rachel Fleegal and Teddi White. OM Alumni: Lauren Sharp, Olivia Hobbs, Alexandra Hobbs, Christie Little, Alex Argo, Jessalynn Kenton and Holly Bundschuh. Friends (new and old) of LF OM: Phil Sharp, Erin Niehorster, Jason Goedde, Samantha Hudran.
As always, thanks for the support this program gets year round and an especially big shout out to my administrators & fellow staff members at LFCE and our custodians.
I look forward to following up next week with how our day went and which teams will be advancing to the State Finals on March 24th. Let’s Go Lake!!
