HR Welcome

The Human Resources Office would like to Welcome you to Spartan Country!

The Lake Forest School District, serving more than 3900 students, is located in southern Kent County, Delaware, 15 miles south of Dover.  Its western boundary is the State of Maryland, and its eastern boundary is the Delaware Bay.  It includes the towns of Bowers, Felton, Frederica, Harrington and Viola.  The name, Lake Forest, is derived from the several lakes and the large amount of forest in the area.  It also relates to a forested state park containing a lake that adjoins the High School property.

The metropolitan centers of Baltimore, Washington, Wilmington, and Philadelphia are two hours or less away.  Less than one hour away is the resort areas of Rehoboth Beach, Bethany Beach, and Ocean City, Maryland.  The “Big Apple,” New York City, is less than four hours away.  Delaware has no sales tax, which results in many out-of-state shoppers visiting our many fine “outlet stores.”

The land area is predominantly used for agriculture, although relatively few people are directly engaged in farming.  Several small industries provide employment in the District, but many of the people are employed by large industries located at nearby Dover, Milford, Seaford, Newark, or Wilmington.  In addition, Dover Air Force Base, site of one of the largest air cargo operations in the world, is located in Dover and is one of the area’s largest employers.  The State government in Dover is also a large local employer.  ILC Dover, the exclusive fabricator of NASA space suits is located within the District.

The District is organized on an elementary, middle and high school concept.  There are three K-3 elementary schools, one 4-5 elementary school, one 6-8 middle school and one 9-12 high school.  This grade configuration closely follows the Delaware Department of Education curriculum structure.  Recent additions and/or renovations have occurred at North Elementary, East Elementary, Central Elementary, W.T. Chipman Middle School, and Lake Forest High School.  The High School additions include a performing arts wing, strength and conditioning center and updated athletic fields.  Central Elementary, opened in 2003, had four classrooms added.  A major focus of renovations was window replacement in order to increase the energy efficiency of our buildings.  Our newest school, South Elementary, opened in 2008. As of 2018, all school buildings have been renovated to ensure safety and security of our building entrances.

The staff of the District are progressive and dedicated to the total education of our children.  We are a “user friendly” school system that maintains a true sense of community.  Lake Forest is a great place to live and learn.  If you are interested in employment with us, please join our candidate pool by applying online at
