Helen Jackson

English I, III and IV

Helen Jackson was born and raised in the nation’s capital, Washington, D.C. Growing up she learned to love reading books and writing poetry.  She  attended an HBCU, Howard University, where she received her Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism.  After college she began her career with the Bell Telephone system and over the next 29 years held several associate and management positions. Although she enjoyed her success in the corporate arena, she felt she had missed her true heart calling-teaching. When she retired from Verizon she began substitute teaching at Lake Forest high School in 2011.  Finally she was doing what her heart called her to do!   In 2014 Mrs. Jackson began teaching English full time at Lake Forest High after going back to school at the University of Delaware to complete her teaching certifications.

When she is not teaching and learning from her students, Mrs. Jackson cherishes spending time with her wonderful family, including her 92 year old mother, two grown sons, two grown daughters and five beautiful grandchildren ranging from ages 9 to 19 years of age. In 2014, she and her daughters founded, Destined 2 Be, a non-profit organization, focused on helping families in the Kent county area in memory of her husband Vincent who passed away that year.
