om

We have lots to celebrate after the Regional OM Competition on Saturday.  Eight teams advanced to the State Finals in April.

In the vehicle competition, Team Gonet & Cole's 2nd and 3rd graders representing East, North and South Elementary schools took 3rd place. After a few hiccups in the staging area, the team was able to pull together to complete their Drive-In Movie performance. In Division 2, Team Cimo had some technical difficulties with their vehicle propulsion system, however the team preserved and worked together to take the judges along on their North Pole Adventure and will be competing at State Finals. Team Massey and Durand rounded out our Vehicle competition with their vehicle being transported to see the movie "Alex in OMERland". This amazing group of seniors finished 1st with top scores in both long term and style. I highly recommend that anyone that has a chance to watch them at State Finals take the opportunity to do so, you will not be disappointed.

Lake Forest only had one team to compete in Classics Opening Night Antics this year. Team Hansen and Salerno's team of Chipman and the High Schoolers presented to the Judges their interpretation of "Journey To The West" where they were required to have a play with a set malfunction, an unexpected sound effect, and a team antic along with a theater critic that deemed the show a success. They placed 4th in a competitive field with first place style scores and will advance to State Finals.

This year's Deep Space Structure competition welcomed 2 new teams. In Division1, Team Gleeson and Washinski, representing South and Central advanced to State Finals with a cute space themed scientific study and a balsa wood structure that held over 300 pounds. Team Weller from Central and Chipman gave a great space themed performance, had a solid style score and will be advancing to State Finals.

The Performance problem took audiences on a Rocking World Detour with Lake having 4 teams compete in the problem this year. Team Boyer gave a spirited performance that Dazzled us with solid long term and style scores, advancing to State. They began planning changes before they left the awards ceremony. Team Gygrynuk took the 1st place trophy in their Division 3 category. The judges were impressed with the team's use of the Greek language, costumes, team created instrument and their Lead Singer.

Not advancing but giving it their all despite very difficult circumstances throughout the season was Team Moyer and her team representing Central and Chipman. The judges loved their creative use of materials, especially the cd's in their backdrop. Team Rangel earned an OMER Award for their outstanding team effort overcoming a daunting task. Two and a half weeks before the competition, this group of third -fifth graders found out that their coach was not able to continue. Without a script, very minimal props but a NEVER give up attitude, this team pulled together and gave a performance that checked all the necessary boxes in their performance Thanks to the amazing Lindsey Rangle for stepping up and helping this team learn was OM is all about.

I'll be in touch again before State Finals, but I'd like us to publicly thank our District personnel who helped make this season possible for our students.

Renee Cimo, Todd & Christy Weller, Ali Durand, Jenn Moyer and Melony Boyer all coached their children's teams.

The following staff members gave up Saturdays to be trained as judge/volunteers and will work between 1-2 tournaments based on their availability and LOVE for the Program:

Heather Beauchamp,  Courtney Evans, Alex Hobbs, Amber Hobbs, Erica Jarrell, Barb Jumper (retired), and Jessica Zoll.

Thanks to everyone for a great Regional Tournament. The Lake Forest Family Rocks!!!!
