The Positive Behavior Support (PBS) Project is a collaborative effort between Delaware schools, the Center for Disabilities Studies at the University of Delaware, and the Delaware Department of Education. The program is geared toward creating safe and caring learning environments to promote all children's social-emotional and academic development. This statewide initiative is designed to build the knowledge and skills of Delaware educators in the concepts and practices of Positive Behavior Support (PBS).  PBS uses a three-tiered approach to develop positive learning environments and prevent problem behaviors. PBS also supports an inclusive culture by creating a common language and vision for staff to support all students learning together, both those with and without disabilities and/or behavior problems. PBS promotes a positive climate not only for students but staff and families as well through increasing a sense of community and focusing on promotion recognition of the positive behaviors of everyone in the school.

At North, and in our district, we believe in positively recognizing and rewarding our students for their outstanding behavior. Our goal is to encourage them to be the most productive and positive members of our community.  In order to facilitate this, we strive on ensuring our students know the PBS school rules, understand how to showcase them throughout the various locations in the building, and that they are recognized for their efforts. Students at North earn STAR Bucks on a daily basis.  The students use these STAR Bucks to purchase attendance to our monthly activities, win prizes in our STAR Buck raffles, and attend our end-of-year PBS Water Day.
